Infer scores at Carnival in stable debut

STABLE newcomer Infer made a winning start to his new surrounds when claiming the $40,000 Drought Breaker (1600m) over the famous three day Swan Hill Cup Carnival.

Infer joined the stable just a fortnight before the contest as a 22-start maiden but thanks to a patient ride from hometown hero Harry Coffey ran over the top of rivals for a 1.75-lentgh triumph.

It was a first Swan Hill Carnival winner for the team, with Lake Racing saddling up our very first starter at the event in 2023 and were narrowly beaten the day before with stablemate Don’tcallmechamp finishing a close second.

“How good to win a race at the Swan Hill Carnival, I’ve been coming here for so many years as a kid and me and Harry have been good mates for a long time so it’s just great to team up and win a race together,” Lake said.

“He might get a bit of confidence now and go on with it – he handles wet ground and synthetic – so he’s in work the right time of year.”

With a pedigree to suggest he will like the staying distances, the five-year-old will look to be extended in distance this preparation.

The victory was the teams fifth success since late April with five different horses from the last 22 runners from the yard.
